The IMRT or Intensity-modulated radiation therapy, or, is a type of cancer treatment that uses advanced computer programs to calculate and deliver radiation directly to cancer cells from different angles.

It enables patients to have higher, more effective doses of radiation while limiting the damage to the healthy tissues and organs around the tumor. This increases your chances of a better and brief treatment with lessened side effects.

IMRT is most often used to treat prostate cancer, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, brain cancer, gastrointestinal cancer and breast cancer. It may also be used in sarcoma, gynecological cancer and pediatric cancer.

After the CT scan maps your tumor in 3D, therapists will be positioning you on the treatment table and mark the position for the radiation. Finally, the team, including doctors and physicists, would use advanced computer programs to calculate and deliver radiation directly to the tumor from different angles. The whole procedure is painless.
