Some organs in the body that require radiation therapy can change in size and shape over the days and weeks that a course of treatment can take. Adaptive radiation therapy (ART) is a radiation therapy process where treatment is adapted to account for internal anatomical changes.
The patient’s plan can be adjusted as per their changing anatomy rather than assuming that it is identical to the previous CT.
ART can be either online, where any required changes to the plan are made on the same day, or off-line, where plan adaptations are performed after treatment and implemented for subsequent fractions.
